WHY DOES YOUR POOL TURN GREEN?

The greenish look in swimming pools can be very common. In fact, there are several reasons for why this phenomenon can occur, even when we think that we are doing a correct maintenance of the water in our swimming pool.

Reasons why this phenomenon occurs

Different reasons exist for our pools to turn green from one day to another. The first motive that comes to mind is that algae may be appearing in the walls and bottom of the pool due to an incorrect pool water treatment. Nevertheless, another less obvious reason is the presence of excessive metallic ions in the water, which get coloured when disinfectant is added.

How can I get my pool back to normal?

Algae

It’s important to bear in mind that our swimming pools are constantly exposed to different factors that may alter its pH levels which, at the same time, may start creating algae colonies that usually are in their walls or bottom.

Firstly, it will be essential to do cleaning of the pool’s wall, bottom and stairs; with our electronic equipment you will be able to control the automatic cleaning of your pool by sectors. Also, it will be important to clean the pool’s filters, a place where you will surely find algae concentration. Next, you will have to do a shock treatment which, through a disinfection process and flocculants, will help the pool water to go back to its usual blue colour. Also, adjusting the pH levels is a fundamental step in order to finish correcting this problem; the recommended levels are between 7,2 and 7,8. Finally, it will be important to add the double dose of algicide to the pool.

TIP: remember that it is important to have a control of the salt level in the pool. Our salt chlorinators are manufactured for you to be informed of any eventuality so you can have adequate control of the salt in your pool and avoid the unwanted appearance of algae.

Metals in the water

A clear indicator that there is a problem with the metals in the pool water is that, after adding a product, it will turn a light green colour. The presence of metals in the water can be due to different factors; from the source of the water and its pH levels, the added products for its treatment, up until the corrosion of the pool’s metallic components such as pipes, connections, among others.

If the metals start to oxidize and they are left untreated, your pool’s finishes may be permanently stained. Therefore, it will be important to check the metal levels in the pool and make sure that they are always in 0; in this way the green colour of the water can be eliminated. Once your pool’s colour is back to normal, it will be important to check the pool’s salt and pH levels and adjust them if necessary.

TIP: through our control panels, you will be able to control your pool’s fundamental parameters and have a dosing process with the adequate chemical products.

Remember that BSPOOL has a SAT network (Technical Attention Service) that will be able to help you with your doubts and with your pool’s maintenance. With the map in our website, you will be able to find the SAT point nearest to you and their contact information, they will help you solve all the problems you may have and that your pool is perfect at all times.
