Maintenance of your pool after summer

31 August, 2020

Summer is about to end, and, with its culmination, autumn arrives, shorter and colder days. However, it is the perfect moment to condition your swimming pool for the winter and that it is in excellent conditions for the next summer season.

Carrying out maintenance processes during autumn always guarantees the proper functioning of the pool. To do this, changing the water treatment from conventional chlorine to the electrolysis system is the first step that should be carried out, since it is capable of carrying out hibernation processes and keeping the pool water clean for long periods of time.

Hibernation of the salt chlorination pool

The hibernation method for swimming pools is a maintenance system that guarantees that its water is in optimal conditions during the cold season. In fact, it is also a resource that helps the environment, as it prevents the waste of water that took place in previous years when emptying swimming pools during autumn.

Make sure that your pool is in excellent conditions for the next summer season carrying out the following recommendations:

  • Carry out a deep cleaning of the pool: to guarantee a correct maintenance, firstly, it will be necessary to carry out an exhaustive cleaning of the walls and bottom of the pool. In addition, it will have to be left clean of any type of residue on the surface.
  • Keep the chlorinator active: if your pool has a salt chlorination system, it will be important to keep the chlorinator active; in this way the maintenance of the water will continue to be carried out (although on a smaller scale) and will always be ready for when the good weather returns.
  • Control the water parameters: controlling the water’s pH levels will be a recurring task during the entire year despite it not being used due to winter. For this reason, we must ensure that the pH levels are always between 7.2 and 7.6. Additionally, the filtration system must be always working during winter, at least for half an hour a day depending on the temperature of the water.
  • Cover the pool: if the swimming pool is outdoors, it will be essential to cover it with a tarp or pool cover. This will prevent the water from freezing, the formation of algae, or waste falling into the water.
